On the brink of the 2008 financial crisis, a village in the Irish province becomes the setting for a story of intra-European migration of different generations and countries. Italy, Ireland and Poland – countries united by Catholic tradition, the centrality of the family and the cyclical nature of having to leave their own land – become an allegory of European history through the narrative device of the musical, i.e. the rewriting of traditional migration songs in a contemporary key. Three different settings characterise the three nationalities featured in the film and their songs.
